Both Simba and Young Africans, competing in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup, respectively, have benefited from the presidential pledge.

When Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu Hassan pledged to pay Tz shs 5M for each goal Simba and Young Africans scored in their respective CAF club competitions, the players’ motivation couldn’t have been any better.

Both Simba and Young Africans, competing in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup, respectively, have benefited from the presidential pledge.

With Yanga, who has scored six goals so far, earning Tz shs 30M while Simba who has scored three more earning Tz shs 45M.

However, Msimbazi’s 7-0 rout over Guinean side Horoya FC on Saturday at the Benjamin Mkapa stadium was the biggest score line thus far and saw Simba players awarded Tz shs 35M, approximately Ugx 55M.

It was not only the biggest win in the CAF Champions League since 2019 but also Simba’s biggest win in the competition at home and in the group stages.

Hamis Mwinjuma, the Deputy Minister for Culture, Arts and Sports, was on hand to deliver the cash to team captain John Rafael Bocco immediately after the full-time whistle.

The win earned Simba a quarter-final slot only for the third time in the club’s history since the competition was renamed the CAF Champions League.

Young Africans, who sit second in Group D on seven points, return to action on Sunday, 19th March when they host table leaders US Monastir from Tunisia.

Uganda Cranes assistant captain Khalid Aucho and his teammates will be hoping to replicate their rivals’ performance.

Not only for the goals and and the cash that comes with it but to also seal a knockout spot in the CAF Confederations Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
