Both teams had chances to kill off the tie but could not convert their prospects needing the game into penalties to decide who would take the day.
Simba converted three out of five penalties with Erasto Nyonyi, Saido Ntibazonkiza and Moses Phiri scoring, while Youssef El Motie saved Shamori Kapombe and Clatous Chota Chama’s penalties.
Yahya Jabrane, Ayoub El Amloud, Amine Aboulfath and Haimoud Abdallah scored all Wydad’s penalties to win 4-3 and advance to the semi-finals.
Wyada Casablanca will face the winner between Mamelodi Sundowns and CR Belouizdad, who meet on Saturday at the Loftus Versfeld. Sundowns lead the tie 4-1 on aggregate.
Simba will now shift their attention to the domestic front; Msimbazi are five points adrift table leaders and arch-rivals Young Africans in the Tanzanian Premier League.
