Sofapaka have appointed the highly experienced former Harambee Stars coach as they seek to avoid relegation after a tough first leg of the season
Former KCB and Gor Mahia coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has been appointed the new tactician of struggling FKF Premier League side Sofapaka.
Otieno joins the club having been without a job since leaving KCB at the end of last season following the expiry of his contract.
The former Sony Sugar coach will take over from Ezekiel Akwana who has been serving on interim basis since the sacking of Burundian Francis Harigingo in October.

FOOTBALL Humphrey Mieno: Veteran midfielder linked with sensational return to AFC Leopards
Sofapaka midfielder Humphrey Mieno is reportedly one of the players on the radar of AFC Leopards as Ingwe look for reinforcements in the January transfer window
“We are pleased to inform our fans, in a bid to boost the squad and the technical bench, we have appointed Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno to be the Head Coach of our team and will be assisted by coach Ezekiel Akwana,” Sofapaka announced on social media on Monday.
Zico brings a wealth of experience, having worked under high-pressure environments during his stints as Gor Mahia as well as Harambee Stars coach.
He did a commendable job at KCB, leading them to three top-five finishes in the four years he was in charge, including missing out on the 2020-21 title by just three points, but that was still not enough for the Bankers who released him at the end of his contract.
Zico also worked at Sony Sugar and Posta Rangers which puts home in good stead to steady the sinking Sofapaka ship who are second from bottom in the league after managing four wins in 16 games.
Sofapaka have had a tough run this season, losing 10 matches that leave them on 14 points, one more than bottom-placed Nzoia Sugar and the club will be counting on the former Harambee Stars coach’s experience to help them avoid the drop.
