The Tusker coach has expressed his desire to keep the striker amid interest from Algeria but wants his team to fully focus on fighting for the FKF Premier League title.

Tusker coach Charles Okere admits he has little power over the future of star striker Ryan Ogam but will not allow the transfer speculation distract his team.

Ogam has been the subject of interest from Algerian club USM Alger, who are reportedly ready to trigger his near Ksh4 million release clause, and lure him during the midseason transfer window.

The player is said to be keen on the move, which would be a massive blow for Okere and his team, who are chasing the FKF Premier League title.

However, the tactician is keen on having a focused squad for the second half of the campaign, starting with Sunday’s league match against KCB.

“This is football and sometimes that happens during the transfer window. Of course, Ogam is an important player for us and we want to have our best players for the rest of the season,” Okere told Telecomasia.net.

“But some things you cannot prevent. We have kept our focus because the team is always bigger than an individual. Our focus is on winning our matches and racing towards our target.”

Ogam has been a revelation for Tusker since signing from second tier Rainbow FC at the start of the current campaign and scored 15 goals in 14 matches which makes him the FKF Premier League’s leading scorer.

Tusker have benefited from his goals, helping them move joint top of the table with Kenya Police on 36 points, and would be affected massively if he leaves.

It remains to be seen if US Alger will complete the deal for the striker who has juts finished six months in the top flight.
