Ibra Ssekagya's charges got going in the second half through Elias Manoel, who opened the scoring for the home side from 12 yards just two minutes after the restart.
Uganda Cranes forward Frank Ssebuufu finally got his name on the score sheet in open play this season as he helped his side earn a vital 2-0 win over city rivals New York City II on Sunday in the MSL Next Pro League.
Ibra Ssekagya's charges got going in the second half through Elias Manoel, who opened the scoring for the home side from 12 yards just two minutes after the restart.
Ssebuufu then doubled the lead two minutes later to mark his first goal in open play and the year for NewYork Redbulls II. Compatriot Owen Baba Kasule also came on in the 60th minute.
Ssekagya was grateful for his team's performance which also capped a wonderful Mother's Day celebration.
"And the city has been painted all Red on Mother's Day; it's not over yet until it's over," the former Cranes captain tweeted.
The win takes NewYork Redbulls II to fifth on 14 points, four ahead of sixth-placed New York City FC II after eight games played.
Ssebuufu joined the side from Wakiso Giants in March 2023 for an undisclosed fee, and he was later reunited with teammate Owen Baba Kasule in the same month.
NewYork Red Bulls II is a reserve side for the MLS side NewYork Red Bulls II and is also home to Uganda Cranes midfielder Joseph Sserwada.
