Geoffrey Sserunkuma finally scored a goal as NEC thrashed Soroti City 5-1 to reclaim third place in the Startimes FUFA Big League on Thursday.
The former KCCA striker Sserunkuma joined in the January transfer window but had gone six games without a goal before breaking the duck through an 88th-minute penalty.
The team captain eased the earlier pressure by scoring in the 8th, 78th and 80th minutes to grab his first hattrick in the Big League thereby moving third in the top scorers’ chart with 14 points.
Booma’s Denis Omedi and Henry Kitegenyi lead with 19 and 15 respectively.

In the other matches played, early favourites Kataka, Ndejje University and Kyetume continued to post mixed results.
Kataka overcame Luweero United 3-1 to move a place out of the relegation zone to 12th. The two sides are tied on points but Kataka moves above the red zone due to their superior goal advantage.
Ndejje, on the other side, raided Kyetume for a 1-0 win that expanded the gap with the red line to two with their 27 points.
