The team will embark on their Big League campaign this week with a trip to Lira to face Northern Gateway.

Sam Ssimbwa has called for unity with the locals as he assumes the coaching duties at Kitara officially.

Ssimbwa made a surprise turn last week to choose a coaching job at FIFA Big League side Kitara over StarTimes Uganda Premier League clubs including Maroons.

The former URA and KCCA FC moved with his former assistant at URA FC, George Lutalo and Hamza Muwonge.

When asked if he was staying to his tradition of moving with his own backroom, the coach was quick to defend his position but also promised to work with the old staff.

"They (old staff) should not panic because we can't do this alone," Ssimbwa revealed shortly after his unveiling.

"We have to groom the locals so that they can take over however, in professional football, coaches move with their backroom staff.

I have worked with Lutalo previously at URA FC and was coach of Muwonge at the national team so I know what they add to the team," he added.

Big offer

The coach, who was unveiled by the club on Sunday in Hoima revealed that they had concluded their negotiations with Maroons and were set to sign the contract last Monday.

But Kitara through their club president Deo Kasozi intercepted and made a good offer that moved him.

"We were supposed to sign a contract last Monday but the president Deo Kasozi called me to come," he revealed.

"I have a good relationship with the team because I was even the one who recommended most of the players to join and chose the 25 players to be registered at the beginning of the season. "

Ssimbwa's revelations come at a time when the team's head coach Mark Twinamasiko is serving a suspension for what the club said he had developed a bad relationship with some senior players at the club.

The team will embark on their Big League canpaign this week with a trip to Lira to face Nothern Gateway.

The team sits top of the log with 31 points after the first round fixtures.
