The team’s only win on the road came against Lugazi who they host on Thursday. That should give Ssimbwa some reprieve.
Sam Ssimbwa expected a soft landing at Kitara after his big-money move last month. The coach has been able to scrape through and propel the Hoima-based club to the last 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
However, the cup is a secondary ambition for the former topflight side that is seeking to bounce back to the premier league after two seasons in the cold.
Since his arrival, Ssimbwa has failed to win a match in the Startimes FUFA Big League registering three draws in as many matches including one at home.
Despite their poor record away, his predecessor Mark Twinamasiko ground eight wins in as many games in their backyard. The team’s only win on the road came against Lugazi who they host on Thursday. That should give Ssimbwa some reprieve.
“We have been training well and have received a better response from the team since we returned from Jinja and we're up to the task,” the coach told club media ahead of the encounter.
Kitara will miss Dudu Ramadhan and Davis Ssali who are still recovering from groin and knee injuries respectively and Abasi Katerega out on suspension. They welcome back their free-kick specialist Edson Agondeze.
The Royals are third on the table with 34 pints, two below NEC and 12 ahead of William Kyeswa’s Lugazi side.
