That ended in a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday afternoon, and the stand-in coach revealed that his side was punished for not putting chances away.
KCCA FC are in a bad place at the moment. Since the return of the Startimes Uganda Premier League after the international break, the Lugogo-based side has played four, drawn three and lost one.
The team is also out of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after falling 1-0 to Soltilo Bright Stars in the quarter-final on Sunday.
That Cup exit marked the end of Morley Byekwaso’s era at Lugogo as the tactician threw in the towel before the press.
And when the club acknowledged his resignation on Tuesday, his assistant Badru Kaddu Mukasa was named to take charge of the team’s immediate fixture, a clash with URA FC.
That ended in a 2-0 defeat on Wednesday afternoon, and the stand-in coach revealed that his side was punished for not putting chances away.
There were barely any clear-cut chances created by the visitors, though.
“We created chances, and we did not put them away. For them (URA), they put theirs away,” Kaddu said after the match at the Mehta Sports Stadium.

UPL KCCA start post-Byekwaso era with defeat at URA
Defender Mujuzi lost possession deep in the URA half, and Ssenjobe was put through on goal by Ssemujju to score and give the visitors the lead in the 72nd minute.
“That does not mean that we are going down so much. We are making mistakes, but through those mistakes, we gain experience, and we shall come back stronger,” he added.
KCCA were not clear in their statement whether Kaddu would continue as the leader of the group beyond the URA fixture.
Talk of club legend Jackson Mayanja taking over for the rest of the season is also ripe, and it remains to be seen who will be in charge against SC Villa on Sunday.
“The strength of the team is always forward, we have very good players who can put chances away, but when chances are not put away, it brings weakness in defending,” a disappointed Kaddu told the press.
“Today, we tried to play so well, although we could not get the result we expected.”
The defeat, coupled with Villa’s 1-0 loss to Arua Hill, means that KCCA are still five points behind the table leaders but with two games in hand.
Defending champions Vipers defeated UPDF 1-0 to move to 35 points, three behind KCCA, having played two games fewer.
The Venoms can go top of the log by winning their four games in hand on Villa.
Regardless of who will be in charge on Sunday, KCCA’s immediate concern is winning a football game.
