Given Spurs recent form and previous records, United were tipped for a victory in the midweek clash.

Thursday's Premier League clash gave Manchester United a chance to continue their recent dominance over Tottenham Hotspur.

But they could not. Despite coming into the game with a high probability of winning going by recent stats and boosted morale following their progress to the FA Cup final, United slipped.

The Red Devils grabbed a half-time lead, but Spurs, who were recently outclassed by Newcastle United, fought back and ensured the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

The fightback saw the London club stop the Mancunians from registering another unwanted record against them.

Thus, Spurs ended a run of four successive Premier League defeats against Manchester United, avoiding defeat for the first time since their 6-1 win in October 2020.

Apart from ending United's dominance, Spurs also ensured they did not have another poor record in the league. They came from two goals down to avoid defeat three times in the Premier League this season: 3-2 against Bournemouth and 2-2 against Brentford, their most in a single league campaign.

Although he did not find the back of the net, Harry Kane – who has been massively linked with United – assisted and thereby set a new record.

He has now assisted 24 goals for Heung-Min Son in the Premier League, the joint-most by a single player for a particular teammate in the competition, alongside Frank Lampard for Didier Drogba.

On the other hand, Kane’s international teammate, Marcus Rashford, reached a milestone. His goal and assist on Thursday took Rashford’s tally to 21 for goal involvements in the Premier League this season - 16 goals and five assists - only registering more in 2019-20 (24).

Meanwhile, six of Bruno Fernandes' seven league assists for United this season have been for Rashford; only Kevin De Bruyne has provided more assists for one player's goals in the Premier League in 2022–23 (eight for Erling Haaland).

After the game, Son revealed what inspired their fightback; "I thought we didn't deserve to be 2-0 down in the first half," the South Korean international said.

"We played quite well, we had the chances to score, but we weren't clinical enough. I think in the second half we showed great character, but we're not happy we didn't get three points. The final decision making wasn't perfect.

Despite dropping points, United have a six-point advantage and two games in hand on Spurs and sixth-placed Aston Villa.
