Manchester City's struggles
The defeat to Liverpool yesterday was Manchester City’s sixth in seven matches.
The dismal run is quite uncharacteristic of a dominant City that have won the last four Premier League titles, and six of the last seven, hence many have tried to make sense of it.
Including former Dortmund midfielder Sunday Oliseh, who referenced Manchester City's dominance in recent years as the reason their struggles are a positive.
What Oliseh said
Via his YouTube channel, Oliseh addressed Manchester City’s problems, and attributed them to six factors:
Injury crisis
Midfield and defensive dynamics
Defensive lapses
Fatigue
Distraction from 115 charges
Increased competitiveness in the Premier League
The now-retired midfielder posited that Manchester City’s dominance was causing the English top flight to lose its attractiveness, hence their struggle is a positive.
He cited Bundesliga and LALIGA as leagues that lost viewership due to a monopoly and duopoly respectively, suggesting that the Premier League stands to gain from City being knocked off the perch.
