Why in-demand Nigerian hot property Osimhen could be the striker for Liverpool and Slot
Liverpool are one of several European giants monitoring the progress of Nigeria and Super Eagles main man Victor Osimhen, who continues to light up Europe with goals at Galatasaray.
A Frustrating Day for Boniface and Tella
Before kickoff, all eyes were on Boniface, who was preferred over Patrik Schick in the starting lineup. However, the Nigerian striker failed to repay his manager’s faith, enduring a frustrating outing.
In the 64th minute, Granit Xhaka attempted to set Boniface up for Leverkusen’s first shot inside the box, but the forward was quickly swarmed by Heidenheim defenders.
)
Just two minutes later, Boniface was substituted, visibly disappointed after failing to register a single shot during his time on the pitch.
Tella, another Super Eagles star, showed early promise with a 10th-minute run down the right flank, but his cross intended for Boniface was intercepted by Heidenheim’s defence.
)
Despite his efforts, Tella, who lasted two minutes more than his compatriot, also struggled to influence proceedings as Leverkusen failed to create meaningful chances for most of the match.
Heidenheim Dominate but Fail to Capitalise
The hosts, sitting in 16th place, were the better side for much of the game and came agonisingly close to scoring in the first half.
In the 10th minute, Gimber smashed a shot off both the bar and post following a corner from Krätzig, a chance that left Heidenheim fans stunned.
)
Leverkusen’s defence looked vulnerable as Heidenheim continued to press but lacked the finishing touch needed to convert their opportunities.
Leverkusen managed only two shots in the first half and went into halftime without troubling Kevin Müller in goal.
)
Even in the second half, Heidenheim remained more threatening, while Leverkusen failed to register a shot on target until the 86th minute when Hofmann’s tame effort was comfortably saved by Müller.
Buendía Saves Leverkusen at the Death
With time running out and frustration mounting for Leverkusen, Emiliano Buendía stepped up in spectacular fashion.
In the 90th minute, Buendía picked up the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a right-footed strike that clipped the inside of the post and found its way into the net.
)
The goal marked Buendía’s first for Leverkusen and proved decisive as it secured three vital points for the defending champions.
The win keeps Leverkusen within six points of league leaders Bayern Munich, but their lacklustre performance raises concerns about their form heading into crucial fixtures.
For Heidenheim, it was a heartbreaking result after dominating large portions of the game. Despite their spirited display, they remain entrenched in relegation danger.
