Bordeaux are slowly working their way back to the French Ligue 1 with Nigeria Super Eagles Josh Maja a key player.
Maja was at his best again for the Ligue 2 club as Bordeaux held off Caen at home on Saturday afternoon.
He proved to be decisive 22nd time this season after he assisted scorer Zuriko Davitashvili in a narrow 1-0 win over Caen at home.
Bordeaux will be grateful to the Nigerian forward as they continue to make progress after taking another step towards promotion with the hard-earned victory.
Maja stats vs Caen
The 24-year-old was on the pitch for 70 minutes before he was taken off as his teammates ensured he was missed after they held on for the important win.
Maja, who exited the game as the most fouled player (with three fouls conceded) created one chance and attempted one shot.
He will however rue the big chance that he missed which would have seen him add to the 16 goals he has so far scored for the club in France’s second tier.
Maja has now contributed 22 goals (16 goals, 6 assists) in 34 matches this season for Bordeaux.
Bordeaux extend unbeaten run
Another good outing as they chase a swift return to the Ligue 1.
The former Ligue 1 champions are on course to return to the top division after a hard-fought win over Caen.
The win over the visitors means they have now won three consecutive games to hold on tight to second place on the table.
Bordeaux are now six points clear of third-placed Metz, who have a game in hand, with four games to the end of the 2023 season.
