Monza's win over Brescia brought about a potential new star for Nigeria's Super Eagles
Nigerians have celebrated the coming of a new generation after Super Eagles legend Obafemi Martins’ son, Kevin Maussi Martins, made his senior debut for Serie A side Monza.
Kevin Martins makes debut in Copa Italia
After starring for Monza’s youth teams, Kevin Martins finally got his chance with the senior side, playing 90 minutes as his side defeated Brescia 3-1.
The son of the Nigerian legend Obafemi Martins was unable to get on the scoresheet but did provide an assist for Monza’s opening goal of the game, scored by Georgios Kyriakopoulos.
Further goals from Matteo Pessina and Gianluca Caprari helped seal a comfortable win for Monza over Brescia to take them to Copa Italia round of 16 on young Martins’ special day.

Martins will get another chance to impress this weekend when Monza go up against 2023 Serie A champions Napoli in Serie A.
Kevin Martins’ international allegiance
Despite being the son of a national hero, Martins’ international future is far from certain as he could still pitch his tent for multiple countries.

Eligible to play for Nigeria through his birth, Martins is also an Italian citizen having been born in the country during his father’s early days with Inter.
The youngster has already made his first steps in international football, representing Italy’s U-15 side and scoring directly from a corner kick on his debut for the young Azzuri.
It remains to be seen whether young Martins will continue in that line or if he will emulate his father by representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
