Ighalo continues to outshine Cristiano Ronaldo in the race for the golden boot as Al-Hilal moved to fourth on the Saudi Arabia Professional League table.
Super Eagles star Odion Ighalo continued his impressive streak in front of goal after scoring a brace in Al Hilal’s 4-0 win over Al-Taawoun in their Saudi Professional Football League clash on Friday evening.
Ighalo had scored six goals in his last seven league games before adding to his tally with a brace in Friday’s clash.
Al-Hilal's star man Ighalo is 'two good
The Super Eagles star opened the scoring for Al-Hilal in the 32nd minute with a left-footed volley after a brilliant team move from the away side.
Ighalo then made it two on the stroke of half-time, finishing off a ball from Andre Carillo following another fine move from Al-Hilal.
Ramon Diaz’s men started the second half with the same intensity they ended the first half, extending their lead in the 51st minute courtesy of a brilliant individual goal from Micheal.
Despite having a three-goal lead Al-Hilal went in search of more, and they got it in the ninth minute of added time through a strike from Mohammed Al-Qhatani.
It was a superb dominant performance from the away side, but the headline was all about Ighalo.
Ighalo extends his lead over Ronaldo
Ighalo’s brace puts him four goals clear of Ronaldo in the race for the golden boot. He is also joint-second in the race, one behind leader Talisca.
The Super Eagles' star now has 12 league goals in 16 games for Al-Hilal this season and another one in the King's Cup. However, is goal per game ratio is dwarfed by Ronaldo who is averaging more than one goal per game after scoring eight goals in seven games.
Ighalo will return to action on March 14 when Al-Hilal take on Al-Fateh in the King’s Cup.
