Taiwo Awoniyi continued his remarkable goalscoring form with the only goal of the game as Nottingham Forest defeated Arsenal 1-0 to secure their PL safety and hand the league title to Manchester City.
Arsenal's title hopes were hanging by the thinnest thread before kickoff and Taiwo Awoniyi's early goal sucked the life out of Mikel Arteta's men, emotionally and physically.
How it happened
Mikel Arteta maintained before kickoff that as long as it was mathematically possible, Arsenal would continue to fight.
However, the Gunners showed little fight as Taiwo Awoniyi opened the scoring for Forest in the 19th minute to stun the away crowd.
Nottingham Forest were fighting for their safety and that goal was nothing less than they deserved after a bright start.
Arsenal performed better in the second half but despite having all the possession, the Gunners failed to find the firepower to get back into the game, meaning a title race they led for so long has ended in disappointment as Manchester City clinch a third consecutive PL crown.
