Super Eagles 1-0 Guinea-Bissau: Nigerians lament Moses Simon as Man of the Match as own goal seals AFCON 2023 round of 16 spot

Super Eagles of Nigeria preview
Nigeria was the clear favorite in Group A going into the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and they did not disappoint.
They easily defeated Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau after a draw with Equatorial Guinea.
Given how effective Nigeria's offense is, it seems unexpected that the final score in both victories was 1-0.
But a win is a win, and perhaps the Super Eagles will score more goals in the elimination phases.
Nigeria finished as the runners-up in Group, although they came behind Equatorial Guinea on goal differential advancing to the AFCON 2023 knockout stage.
After a disappointing 1-1 tie with Equatorial Guinea to begin their AFCON campaign, the Super Eagles defeated Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau twice while keeping a clean sheet in the process.
Now, they aim to continue their quest for gold against struggling Cameroon.
Indomitable Lions of Cameroon preview
Fans of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon were let down from the beginning.
They lost to Senegal after losing to 10-man Guinea in their opening two group games.
Most of their third game against Gambia was frustrating: five minutes before halftime, Cameroon had already conceded twice and were behind.
In 90+1 minutes, Cameroon scored the game-winning goal after Gambia initially gave up an own goal.
Cameroon was inspired by their incredible comeback, which propelled them to second place in the group.
Nigeria vs Cameroon expectations
In knockout games, order and discipline often matter more than the desire to win, and Nigeria are much stronger in this area.
Besides, Cameroon's defense is just too vulnerable on defense.
Nigeria vs Cameroon Head-to-Head
At the AFCON, the rivalry between Cameroon's Indomitable Lions and Nigeria's Super Eagles will rekindle.
To secure a podium finish in Ivory Coast, Nigeria must defeat five-time AFCON champion Cameroon, which stands in the way of their quest for a fourth AFCON championship.
In their seven meetings at the Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria and Cameroon have split three victories and one tie.
In the 1984, 1988, and 2000 AFCON tournaments, Cameroon emerged victorious in the final matches against Nigeria.
In addition to defeating the Cup champions Cameroon 2-1 in the 2004 quarterfinals, the Super Eagles also triumphed 3-2 in the Round of 16 in Egypt just four years ago while In 1992, they won the bronze medal match.
The only draw came In 1988 when the two teams tied in the group stage.
Vincent Aboubakar returns for Nigeria vs Cameroon
The captain of Cameroon's Indomitable Lions, Vincent Aboubakar, is available for selection ahead of his team's match against Nigeria's Super Eagles on Saturday at the AFCON 2023 round of 16.
Aboubakar sustained an injury while training a few days before the tournament started, which prevented him from playing in Cameroon's group matches.
As per the Cameroonian media, Abubakar participated in the team's rigorous 90-minute practice.
After his recovery from his injuries, Clinton Njie is also eligible for section.
With eight goals, Aboubakar emerged as the best scorer in the Cameroonian AFCON 2021.
In the meantime, Cameroon is hoping to defeat the Eagles in an AFCON match for the first time since 2000 this coming Saturday.
Nevertheless, Napoli is expected to welcome back Osimhen, the Serie A player of the year from the previous season, or Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa of Cameroon ahead of schedule, with Nigeria playing Cameroon in the round of 16.
After a tumultuous tournament on a personal level, Manchester United's top player, Onana, will also be returning home if Cameroon does not advance.
Time and where to watch Nigeria vs Cameroon
On Saturday, January 27, Nigeria and Cameroon will play at the same stadium in Abidjan, the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny, where they defeated Guinea-Bissau.
Across Africa and beyond, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will broadcast the 2023 AFCON, which takes place in 2024.
The local broadcaster in Nigeria is AfroSport, but it is also accessible on Supersports on DSTV and Starstimes Sports Premium.
It will kick off at 9 PM Nigerian time.
