'Forget revenge' - Here is what Jose Peseiro has to say about the Super Eagles of Nigeria's 100th AFCON game against Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria's coach, José Santos Peseiro, vowed that his team will not let up when they play Guinea Bissau, even though they are well-positioned to advance to the Round of 16 with four points after defeating the host country, Cote d'Ivoire, on Thursday.

Since he took over the three-time African champions 20 months ago, only one team has defeated Peseiro's Super Eagles in a competitive game and that is Guinea-Bissau their next group opponent.

The Eagles are strolling with spring in their feet at the École National de la Police training center and Pullman Hotel Abidjan after taking four points from their opening two games, including a thrilling victory over the host country and one of the favorites.

Speaking at the pre-match conference, Peseiro made his thoughts about the Super Eagles' final Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group game against Guinea-Bissau known.

At the Palais de la Culture in the Treichville area of Abidjan on Sunday, he said, “We defeated Cote d’Ivoire, but that is already in the past. We know that in football, what counts is the moment.

"We must temper our confidence, and put in more work as required. We must not rest.

“We want to take the first place and for that, we must do battle. We must do what is necessary to accomplish our mission tomorrow.

“We have to forget that we defeated the host nation. There is a lot more work to be done. We want to be here for the long haul."

Peseiro on Super Eagles' revenge against Guinea-Bissau

However, Peseiro issues a warning, saying that more work needs to be done and that having level heads is crucial.

In June 2022, Peseiro's Super Eagles won their first two international matches, defeating Sierra Leone 2-1 in Abuja and setting a new international record with a 10—0 victory over Sao Tome and Principe in Agadir, Morocco.

But in an AFCON 2023 qualifying match, the Wild Dogs defeated the Eagles 1-0 on Nigerian grounds.

The Portuguese trainer claims that although Nigeria returned the favor in Bissau a few days later, the Portuguese-speaking country still owes him a retort.

He added, “We are not thinking about revenge but we are here to top the group and they are in our sights.

"We must do what has to be done. Guinea Bissau have no point and will play with freedom, and that is when a team becomes dangerous.”

In the pivotal match on Monday, which will mark Nigeria's 100th appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations since a 1963 group stage match against Egypt in neighboring Ghana, the Super Eagles will top group A with a win, provided Equatorial Guinea, also on four points, does not humiliate host nation Cote d'Ivoire in a match taking place concurrently at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Ebimpe.

On Monday, the match between the two teams takes place at the Stade Félix Houphoüet-Boigny in central Abidjan at 5 p.m. CIV time, or 6 p.m. Nigeria time.
