Nigerian heartthrob Michelle Alozie is making an impact on and off the pitch
Super Falcons fan favourite Michelle Alozie has proven time and again that she can play vital roles both on an off the pitch.
The Nigeria international not only stars for the national team and NWSL’s Houston Dash but also works part-time as a researcher at the Texas Children's Hospital.
Alozie lives double life as footballer and researcher
When Alozie is not bombing down the right flank of the Super Falcons’ defence or leading the attack for Houston Dash, the 27-year-old doubles as a researcher, seeking breakthroughs in cancer treatments.
Describing her work with the Texas Children’s Hospital research centre, Alozie remarked, “I’m a research tech here. What we really try to do is see how some chemotherapies can help this particular AML cancer that we are studying.”
Speaking on the impact of her work, the Super Falcons’ full-back said, “It’s really profound and gives my life so much purpose.”
Alozie thriving in two careers
Since making her debut for the Super Falcons in 2021, Alozie has become one of the most important players in the Nigerian national team, staring as they reached the round of 16 of the 2023 FIFA World Cup before getting knocked out on penalties by eventual finalists England.
She has also been a key player for Houston Dash in the NWSL, impressing despite her team’s underwhelming 12th-place finish in the regular season.
Her endeavours on the pitch have not stopped her from performing her research duties with the Texas Children's Hospital where she works part-time during the football season and full-time during off season.
