Villa was nowhere near the predictions for who would be potential champions back in October, but they have gone from strength to strength over the course of the season.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (SUPL) relegation struggle may be wrapped, but proceedings at the top of the table are serving up far more drama as SC Villa, KCCA FC and defending champions Vipers SC take their fight to the final day.

Villa was nowhere near the predictions for who would be potential champions back in October, but they have gone from strength to strength over the course of the season.

Led by an exciting cast of Charles Bbaale, Seif Batter, Patrick Kakande and Fred Gift, the record SUPL champions have blended tyouth with experience well to power them through an unexpected title challenge.

The Jogoo led the table going into the final five games of the season, and despite losing their advantage with two games to go, they were gifted again when both their rivals faltered on the penultimate day of the season.

Villa picked up what could be a crucial 1-0 victory over Blacks Power, with KCCA and Vipers held to draws by Busoga United and BUL FC respectively on Tuesday.

Only two points separate the top three going into the final day, with Villa leading the race on 52 points, while both Vipers and KCCA are on 50 points in second and third.

Here are the full permutations ahead of the final day of the season, detailing how each team could scupper the other to lift the trophy.

What SC Villa need

Villa hold the advantage in the race and the title simple terms is theirs to lose, but they have a worse goal difference than both their rivals.

That means that they could win their first league title since 2004 in only one way, which is maintain their points advantage with outright victory against URA FC at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

What Vipers need

The Venoms could retain the title if they win at Busoga United – who secured their top flight status with a draw against KCCA – on the final day.

The hold the biggest advantage in terms of goal difference, and will need to better or match KCCA’s result. Vipers will also win the title if they win, Villa draws and regardless of KCCA’s result.

What KCCA need

The Kasasiro Boys are the least advantaged in this three horse race. To win the title, they need to win against Soltilo Bright Stars at Lugogo and hope Vipers and SC Villa fail to win.

KCCA FC can also win the title if Vipers lose to Busoga at Kitende, and Villa draw against URA FC.

If Vipers win and Villa fail to win, KCCA can also lift the title if they better their result by six goals. Meaning, a 1-0 win for Vipers will require KCCA to win 8-0 or with a difference of eight goals.
