Leandro Trossard came off the bench to inspire Arsenal to a much-needed 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Villa Park.
Arsenal enjoyed sweet revenge, defeating Aston Villa 2-0 and ending the cycle of defeats against Unai Emery, who defeated the Gunners home and away last season.
The game had a stop-start feel in the first few minutes and there was some bad news as Villa's Matty Cash went off injured just 14 minutes in, but Arsenal struggled to capitalise until Bukayo Saka's curling effort forced Emiliano Martínez into action.
The match continued at a slow pace until Gabriel Magalhaes's mistake almost gift-wrapped a goal for Leon Bailey, but Ollie Watkins dragged his shot wide.
Arsenal remained patient, and their approach paid off when Leandro Trossard, just off the bench, guided a shot into the bottom corner.
Ten minutes later, Thomas Partey doubled the lead with a first-time shot that slipped through Martínez's grasp, putting the contest to bed.
This win gives the Gunners two Premier League victories and two clean sheets this season, extending their unbeaten road run to 10 league matches and handing Villa their first home defeat in the league in 9 games.
