Awoniyi first came into the limelight In 2010 when he was voted the Most Valuable Player at a Coca-Cola football competition in London, catching the eye of ex-Super Eagles star Seyi Olofinjana who invited him to join the Imperial Soccer Academy.

Austin was named as the Super Eagles interim coach after the appointment of Bruno Labbadia deal collapse.
But it was really three years later that he blew up for his performances for Nigeria at the the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates where he scored four goals to help the Golden Eaglets win the tournament.
After that, he represented Nigeria at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand where he scored two goals as the Flying Eagles crashed out in the round of 16.
He was then signed by English giants Liverpool shortly after in August 2015 for a fee of around £400,000.
The teenager was immediately loaned to German club FSV Frankfurt, followed by loan moves to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen, Belgian teams Royal Excel Mouscron and KAA Gent and then back to Germany with FSV Mainz and finally Union Berlin where he impressed with five goals in 22 games across six months.
After six years at Liverpool in which he failed to make a single appearance and seven loan spells, the youngster left to join Union Berlin permanently for a reported £6.5 million fee in 2021 and instantly repaid the German club’s faith.
The Nigerian striker scored 20 goals in 43 games for Union Berlin across all competitions in the 2021/22 season to help the club finish fifth (their highest Bundesliga finish ever) and reach the DFB Pokal semi-final.
And by virtue of this performance, Awoniyi would leave Union Berlin just a year after signing permanently. He joined Nottingham Forest for £17 million in July 2022, which was a club-record fee at the time.

Boniface was his hilarious self as the Super Eagles arrived in Kigali for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
He has had to battle with injury issues in his first season with Nottingham Forest but Awoniyi has still returned five goals in 22 games for the Garibaldi so far.
The 27-year-old only just made a return from a three-month injury layoff after hurting his groin in a 1-0 win against Southampton back in January 2023.
He returned to action with three substitute appearances against Wolves, Leeds United and Aston Villa all in the Premier League but still awaits his first start since the injury.

On July 1, 2022, Taiwo Awoniyi signed a five-year contract with Nottingham Forest which reportedly earns him £50,000 per week.
The £50,000 weekly salary nets Awoniyi an annual income of £2,600,000 and will earn £13,000,000 by the end of his current Nottingham Forest contract in July 2027.
