A later Tammy Abraham strike meant Voctor Osimhen's late goal from the penalty spot was not the winner, as Roma and Napoli shared spoils.
Roma and Napoli led the game in periods but eventually settled for a draw. Nigeria's Victor Osimhen thought he won it for Napoli with a late penalty, but British-Nigerian Tammy Abraham grabbed a late equaliser for the Giallorossi to earn his team a draw.
How it happened
The game kicked off with both teams cautious, but Napoli showed their threat on the counterattack, Victor Osimhen leading the breakaways. Although Napoli had the better chances, Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar was alert, denying André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to keep the scores level at halftime.
Roma came out stronger in the second half and took the lead through Paulo Dybala's penalty after Juan Jesus fouled Sardar Azmoun. However, Napoli responded quickly as Mathías Olivera's deflected shot found the back of the net just five minutes later.
The game opened up in the final 25 minutes, with both teams creating chances. Osimhen went close for Napoli, while Lorenzo Pellegrini tested the Napoli defence at the other end. Napoli regained the lead through Osimhen, who converted from the spot after a poor tackle from Renato Sanches.
VAR played a key role once again, awarding Roma a late equaliser as Tammy Abraham nodded in a corner at the back post. The goal secured a point for Roma and kept them in the hunt for a UEFA Champions League spot.
The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Roma securing a potentially crucial point in their quest for Champions League qualification. Meanwhile, Napoli's hopes of European qualification took a hit as they missed out on the chance to close the gap on seventh place.
