CECAFA U18 W Tanzania, Uganda peel away in race for CECAFA Women U18 title

Tanzania and Uganda lead the table with six points each, but the hosts are on top after scoring five goals, one more than Uganda.

Hosts Tanzania and Uganda have proved to be the teams to beat in the inaugural CECAFA Women U18 championship that is on in Tanzania after winning their first two games, respectively.

The duo, alongside Ethiopia, were touted as the pre-tournament favourite, but the latter has now fallen behind after losing to the former two.

The Ethiopians lost 1-0 to Uganda on the opening day before succumbing to a 3-0 thumping against Tanzania on Thursday.

Team captain Noela Patrick Luhala and Aisha Juma Mnunka scored in either half to give the hosts the win and reclaim the top spot on goal difference.

Earlier on, Brenda Nanyana, Angnes Nabukenya and Phiona Nabulime netted as Uganda thrashed Zanzibar 3-0.

Ethiopia, Zanzibar and Burundi are yet to win a game at the tournament.

The games return on Saturday, with Tanzania facing Zanzibar as Ethiopia searches for their first win against Burundi.

Uganda will return to action on Sunday against table leaders Tanzania.
