Nathan Tella and Bayer Leverkusen continued their march to the Bundesliga title with another win against Noah Atubolu and Freiburg.

Nigerian winger Nathan Tella was introduced off the bench late on as Bayer Leverkusen overcame errors Super Eagles prospective goalkeeper Noah Atubolu's to claim a 3-2 victory over Freiburg in a Bundesliga thriller.

Tella was brought on for the final seven minutes as Xabi Alonso's side held on to secure three precious points in their pursuit of the Bundesliga title.

Atubolu Errors Prove Costly For Freiburg

While it was a winning cameo for Tella, the afternoon proved far more difficult for fellow Nigerian talent Atubolu between the sticks for hosts Freiburg.

The young goalkeeper was at fault for Bayer's second goal, scored by Adam Hlozek, which put the visitors 2-1 up after Florian Wirtz's opener and Ritsu Doan's equaliser.

Patrik Schick added a third for Leverkusen after the break as Atubolu's struggles continued, taking his goals conceded tally to eight in just two matches.

Leverkusen Stay Unbeaten

Despite Atubolu's woes, there was no denying the quality of Bayer Leverkusen's attack as they made it win number 24 from 26 matches in the Bundesliga this season.

Their latest victory, coupled with impressive recent Europa League form, sees them remain unbeaten across all competitions under Alonso so far in this campaign.

With Tella getting a late run-out, the 3-2 triumph could prove a significant one in the title race as Leverkusen continue their unexpected charge towards potential Bundesliga glory.

For Atubolu, however, it was another chastening afternoon as he eyes potential future opportunities with the Nigerian national team.
