It was the fourth time the Red Devils were losing by the same scoreline in history, but it was their worst defeat in the premier league era.

It was a nightmare for Manchester United following a 7-0 humiliation by rivals Liverpool in the English Premier League at Anfield on Sunday evening.

The 20-time Premier League champions trailed 1-0 at halftime before conceding six goals in the second half, and according to manager Erik Ten Hag it was an 'unprofessional' display.

"Second half was not us. It was not our standards. We did not play as a team," Ten Hag said in the game's aftermath.

"I was surprised because, in the last weeks and months, I have seen a team that is resilient and determined with a winning attitude."

"We did not stick to the plan and lost our heads. We did not do our jobs. We did not track back, and it was unprofessional," he added.

Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Darwin Nunez scored braces, while Roberto Firmino scored the other for the Kops.

"It was a bad performance and the worst of years. We let down the fans, and I am disappointed and angry about it," Ten Hag stated.

"I can not blame them for leaving, and I am ashamed of myself for the fans," he added.

It was the fourth time the Red Devils were losing by the same scoreline in history, but it was their worst defeat in the premier league era.

Blackburn, Aston Villa, and Wolves are the other three teams that previously hammered United 7-0.

Ten Hag's charges have been in red-hot form, and the defeat to Liverpool was their first in the previous 12 games in all competitions.

"We have made a lot of progress, but you see what happens when you don't keep standards," he mentioned.

"What I have said in the dressing room is that this is unacceptable. But also, it is only one game."

"We will bounce back. This team is strong enough, and we will reset and bounce back," Ten Hag noted.

They remain third on the 20-team EPL log with 49 points, 14 and nine behind leaders Arsenal and second-placed Manchester City, who are on 63 and 58, respectively but have played a game more.

Manchester United will return to action on Thursday at home against Real Betis for the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16.
