Both sides had chances, with Kyle Walker-Peters and Bruno Fernandez each rattling the post while James Ward-Prowse hit the crossbar.

Ten-man Manchester United managed a point against bottom-of-the-table Southampton following a goalless draw at Old Trafford on Sunday in the English Premiership.

Erick Ten Haag's side started on the wrong foot when midfielder Casemiro was sent off in the 34th minute after VAR intervention for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz.

As it was the midfielder's second dismissal of the season, it triggers a four-match suspension, which rules him out of next week's FA Cup quarter-final with Fulham, plus the three Premier League games that follow.

Both sides had chances, with Kyle Walker-Peters and Bruno Fernandez each rattling the post while James Ward-Prowse hit the crossbar.

Theo Walcot could have won it for the visitors late on with a solo run, but David de Gea's fingertip save denied the winger.

Despite their position in the table, Southampton's form is good. They have picked up seven points from four games since Nathan Jones was sacked on 12 February.

The result consolidates United's top-four position, while Southampton now are effectively three points from safety, given their goal difference, with 12 games of the campaign remaining.
