The goalkeeper trainer played a huge role last season as Tamale claimed the goalkeeper of the season award picking up 13 clean sheets in 24 games before joining Rwanda's Rayon Sport.

Based on Simon Tamale's performance, Maroons' Tezigwa Rogers was quickly the best goalkeeping coach last season.

The goalkeeper trainer played a huge role last season as Tamale claimed the goalkeeper of the season award picking up 13 clean sheets in 24 games before joining Rwanda's Rayon Sport.

Tezigwa, who recently extended his stay for a further two years with Maroons, says he is optimistic last season's form can be replicated with the current goalkeepers at the club.

"I am happy that the club (Maroons) extended my contract. It means they appreciated my efforts last season," Tezigwa told Pulse Sports before adding.

"I am optimistic we shall have the same form or even better because we replaced Simon Tamale with another top goalkeeper in Hannington Sebwalunyo; he has been at the club before and knows the culture here well."

The former URA FC shot-stopper, who penned a two-year deal, will battle for the number one shirt with youngster Mutwalib Magolofa and Akol Emmanuel.

Tezigwa adds that all the goalminders will compete for the number one shirt as they target to pick up as many clean sheets in the first seven games of the season.

"All the goalkeepers are good; we don't have a first choice because the competition is healthy; our target is to pick up as many clean sheets, especially in the first seven league games," he added.

Mohammed Senfuma's side already got their campaign started on a back foot losing 2-1 to record league champions S.C Villa on Wednesday in the FUFA Super Eight tournament.

The two-time Uganda Premier League champions hope to better their sixth-place finish last season when the league gets underway on 14th September.
