Njunge has fully established himself as Nairobi City Stars' first-choice keeper, fending off competition from Jacob Osano.

Nairobi City Stars custodian Steve Njunge is looking forward to achieving more milestones after he played his 50th Kenyan top-flight game during the tie against Nzoia Sugar FC at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday, June 3.

The keeper, who has established himself as the first choice for the Simba wa Nairobi, fending off competition from Jacob Osano, who has been out of form lately, has achieved this milestone after nearly five years in the league, having also played for Wazito FC.

“I give thanks for reaching the magical 50. It has not been easy, and I attribute it all to hard work,” Njunge said.

The custodian was grateful to his coaching staff and, in particular, head coach Nicholas Muyoti for putting their faith in him, especially when he went through a debilitating knee injury that limited his appearances in the now-voided 2021/22 season.

“I also wish to thank my coaches for believing in me and giving me the chance to feature for the club across the last three seasons. The milestone aside, I want to stay focused and post new highs with the club,” added Njunge.

The Nzoia game was the 13th for Njunge this season, who has so far clocked 1,095 minutes.

The current number of games is an improvement from the four he earned from injuries last season.

In the 2020–21 Premier League season, Njunge clocked all the minutes available after featuring in all 34 games. He registered eleven clean sheets to be named the joint runners-up keeper of that season.

Njunge has spoken about his desire to establish himself as a Kenyan international in the near future.
