French forward Kylian Mbappe finally confirmed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid but the transfer came with a massive pay cut on his big-money deal at PSG.
French forward Kylian Mbappe finally completed his long-awaited move to Real Madrid after opting against extending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
The signing of Mbappe ends a two-year saga between the player and the two clubs with Real Madrid having submitted a €200m (Ksh28.3 billion) offer on summer deadline day to sign him in 2022 before PSG rejected it and convinced him to extend his stay.
In Madrid, Mbappe will be paid an annual salary of between €15m (Ksh2.1 billion) and €20m (Ksh2.8 billion) with annual increments. He is due to receive a €125m (Ksh17.7 billion) signing-on bonus spread over five years of the contract, and will get 80 per cent of his image rights.

While this is not pocket change, Mbappe leaves behind one of the biggest contracts in football history, given what he was on at PSG and what the club was still winning to pay him had he extended his stay.
When he signed his extension in 2022, the three-year deal was worth an astonishing €630 million (Ksh89.4 billion) to the Frenchman.
His basic wage was around €6 million (Ksh851 million) per month, which gave him an after-tax monthly salary of €2.7 million (Ksh383 million).

In addition to the signing-on fee, Mbappe also got a loyalty payment for each year he remained at the club. The first instalment was thought to be €70 million (Ksh9.9 billion) and it rose in value each season that the Frenchman stayed at the club.
