The Portuguese superstar was left in tears on Saturday after his World Cup dream ended.

Former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay-Jay Okocha has reacted to Ronaldo's exit from the Qatar 2022 World Cup, saying he understood why the Portugal star cried.

Ronaldo's World Cup dream ended on Saturday evening after his Portugal side lost 1-0 to Morocco in their quarter-final clash. Having won almost everything in football, The 37-year-old went to Qatar hoping to win the only title missing from his incredible collection.

World Cup was not meant for Ronaldo- Okocha 

However, his dream of winning the biggest sporting title ever ended in disappointment again after five times of trying. Following the loss to Morocco, Ronaldo was seen crying as he walked through the tunnel into the dressing. The depressing image has gone viral, with the football community reacting to it.

Okocha was one of the many popular figures who reacted to the former Manchester United man's exit. The ex-Super Eagles star, who was on punditry duty during the match, said he understood why Ronaldo cried, but he was not destined to win the World Cup.

" We've seen it in this tournament. A lot of stars have cried because they knew this could be their last chance of playing in the World Cup," Okocha said.

"We saw Suarez and now Ronaldo. What a fantastic career he has had. He's an icon but I mean, some things are not meant to be.

"I don't think that it was meant for him to win the World Cup because they had everything. But credit to Morocco," the former Super Eagles captain added.

Okocha is not the only former Nigerian international to react to Ronaldo's exit. Eguavoen also shared his opinion after Ronaldo's exit, although he was more praiseful of the ex-Real Madrid man, calling him the 'GOAT.'

Eguavoen, who oversaw the Super Eagles' ill-fated World Cup playoff campaign, praised Ronaldo for his contribution to football.

He tweeted: Cristiano Ronaldo. What an incredible specimen of a human. What an Athlete and what a footballer. Thank you for your services to the beautiful game. The Greatest of all Time.

While Ronaldo is yet to fully announce his retirement from international football, he is not expected to play in another World Cup.
