Yet again, the most prominent club football fixture in East Africa, dubbed the Kariakoo derby, which pits the two Tanzanian giants in Simba SC and Young Africans SC is back on the books.
The derby, set for Sunday will see Khalid Aucho, the Cranes assistant captain currently on the books of Young Africans, try to lift his side past Simba and stretch their lead at the summit of the table.
“A derby is always a big game, especially for the fans; we want to pick up maximum points because we have five games left to wrap up the league,” Aucho told Pulse Sports.
“We also hope to use the derby to prepare for the upcoming CAF Confederations Cup game against Rivers United,” he added.
‘Tiimu ya Wanainchi’ sit at the top of the league table with 68 points, eight ahead of second-placed Simba, although both have a game in hand, with the rest of the teams having played 26 games.
Young Africans won the domestic treble last season, starting with the charity shield against Simba, with Fiston Mayele scoring twice.
They then won the league and also won the Azam Federation Cup, where Khalid Aucho scored the winning penalty as they beat Coastal Union 4-1 in post-match penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, Stephane Aziz Ki scored for Young Africans while Augustine Okrah scored for Simba.
