Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is being offered a bumper deal by Algerian club USM Alger who are exploring the possibilities of signing him this month
Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala could reap big if the reported interest in him by Algerian club USM Alger succeeds.
USM are reported to have identified Omala as the man to solve their goalscoring problems and started talks with his representatives with a view to signing him in the January transfer window.
Now, details of what is being offered to the striker have emerged with the Algerian side believed to have tabled a $20,000 (Ksh3,102,190) monthly salary as well as a signing-on fee of $100,000 (Ksh15,510,950).
USM are offering Omala a two-and-a-half year contract and reportedly want to pay Gor Mahia $50,000 (Ksh7,755,475) to lure him to Algeria.

FOOTBALL Benson Omala: Gor Mahia striker on the radar of top Algerian side
Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala is reported to have attracted the interest of the Algerian club who are exploring the possibility of signing him
However, it appears the club are doing this without the blessings of K’Ogalo who insist they are yet to hear from the Algerian side.
“No one has approached us for Omala,” Gor Mahia CEO Raymond Oruo told Pulse Sports. “He still has two years on his contract and if anyone wants to sign him, the right thing to do is to talk to us. Anyone talking to him now is player tapping.”
Omala was linked with moves within Africa and beyond the continent after firing in a record-equaling 26 goals in the FKF Premier League last season as he led K’Ogalo to a 20th title.
South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates as well as Tanzanian champions Yanga were among the clubs rumoured to be monitoring him but a deal did not materialise.
It remains to be seen if the latest reports will lead to an offer and how Gor would react to such a situation.
Omala, who is the league’s leading scorer, is an integral part of coach Johnathan McKinstry’s side and the tactician would not wish to lose him mid-way through the season when his team are seeking to retain their title.
