The Taifa Stars players are set to receive a big bonus from the state after sealing a place at next year’s tournament in the Ivory Coast
Tanzania national team players are set to receive a bonus of over Ksh28 million after sealing qualification for the delayed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Taifa Stars secured the draw they needed to book their ticket to next year’s tournament in the Ivory Coast following a goalless stalemate away to Algeria on Thursday night.
It was a memorable result for Adel Amrouche’s men who returned to the tournament for the first time since 2019, making it the third time they have qualified for the AFCON, having made their maiden appearance in 1980.

With that, they are set for a reward of Tsh500 million (Ksh28,878,696) being a promise made to the team by the government during the early stages of their qualification journey in March this year.
The pledge was announced by Tanzania Minister for Sports Pindi Chana who said the amount was meant to inspire the players to fight hard in the remaining matches and secure qualification.
Amrouche’s men delivered after finishing second in a Group F that had Algeria, Uganda and Niger. Algeria topped the group with 16 points, eight ahead of Tanzania, while Uganda were third on seven.
“Congratulations Taifa Stars for qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. You have made history by qualifying for the third time since the tournament’s inception. I wish you all the best,” Tanzania President Samia Suluhu Hassan said on Thursday.
Taifa Stars recorded an away win against Uganda and beat Niger at home, added to draws against Nigeria and Algeria.

The draw in the North nullified any hopes the Cranes had following their 2-0 win over Niger in Marrakech, Morocco.
Besides the government’s pledge, Tanzania will also receive $534,000 (Ksh77,260,331) from Confederation of African Football (CAF) for qualifying for the tournament slated for January 13-Februray 11 in the Ivory Coast.
