‘The Premier League is a defunct organisation’- Gary Neville slams English top flight

The Premier League has come under heavy fire from Gary Neville, who called it a "defunct organisation" that has "lost trust."

Gary Neville's comment came after Everton were docked 10 points by the Premier League for financial breaches.

The Toffees have lost £124.5 million over the course of three seasons, and they are once again in the drop zone.

Now, Sean Dyche's team must fight hard to stay in the Premier League and avoid being relegated at the end of the season.

Neville’s comments

Neville believes that the Premier League's decision to penalise Everton with a significant deduction for a single infraction quickly caused the league to lose the faith of many people.

He said as reported by the Sun, “Everton’s trust and faith [in the Premier League] has gone completely. The greed and selfishness is out of control - it’s lawless.

“The Premier League is a defunct organisation because they’ve got 20 clubs all voting with self-interest.

“This has been coming for many years. The Super League clubs that tried to destroy the whole of European football…

“They were fined a total of £22 million, £3.5 million for each team, which is an absolute disgrace and a scandal for what they attempted to do, which was the attempted murder of our game.”

Everton issued a scathing statement after their punishment, labelling their point deduction as "unjust."

The punishment was issued when Manchester City was still fighting 115 allegations of financial breaches.

Claims of financial dodging between 2008 and 2019 are made against the Treble winners by the Premier League.
