The Reds manager watched in disappointment as his team’s misery continued following a 3-0 defeat against Wolves.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has blamed defensive errors for his side’s 3-0 defeat in their Premier League clash against Wolves at Molineux.
Liverpool’s slump continued after they suffered an embarrassing defeat against Julen Lopetegui’s men on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds got off to a bad start when Joel Matip directed a ball into his net. It got worse for Klopp’s side as Craig Dawson made it two for Wolves before Ruben Neves’ second half strike wrapped up a comprehensive victory for the home side.
The result piles up more misery on Liverpool and Klopp, who are still without a league win in the 2023.
The Reds have only won once in all competitions and are currently 11 points off the final Champions League spot.
However, speaking after the defeat, Klopp said his side played well but were the architect of their misfortunes.
Klopp blames defensive errors
The former Borussia Dortmund manager pointed at the defensive errors they made in the first two goals and also criticised the players for their failure to respond.
“We caused problems for ourselves. I got asked if it was down to the 63 games last season. Yes, it had an influence, but it's February and we had a full week to prepare, Klopp said after the game as per BBC via Anfield watch.
Nonetheless, Klopp insists Liverpool’s play deserved at least a goal, stating Wolves' third goal does not really matter.
“The third goal I don't count because it was the first time they passed the halfway line in the second half. The other two goals, going into a game with all the things we said during the week and before the game then this is the start is horrible,” Klopp continued.
“Conceding early goals is not unfamiliar to us but the way we conceded them today was not acceptable. When you see the whole game, throughout the game in moments we played an outstanding game without scoring and a good away game without scoring,” Klopp concluded.
It does not get easier for Klopp and his boys as they face Everton next in the Merseyside derby before a trip to St James Park to take on Newcastle.
