The former Harambee Stars coach has distanced himself from reports that he is set to succeed ‘Zico’ in the KCB dugout
Former Wazito FC coach Francis Kimanzi has distanced himself from reports that he is set to take over from Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno as the new coach of KCB.
Media reports on Wednesday claimed that the bankers are in talks with the former Tusker FC and Mathare United coach over the position following the expiry of Zico’s contract.
Kimanzi has, however, stayed coy over the speculation, terming it just ‘rumours’ since, according to him, the club has not officially declared that Otieno has left his role.
“Contract expiration does not mean there is a vacancy, the club and coach could still be talking over a possible extension. So, there must be an official declaration that there is a vacancy,” Kimanzi told Pulse Sports.

FOOTBALL Zico set to end four year stay with KCB
The coach has been in charge of the club for the last four years since his arrival from Gor Mahia.
“I cannot speak of someone else’s job when nothing has been declared officially. It would be disrespectful of me. If there is a vacancy, then let there be a letter saying so and If I am interested I will apply.
“From where I sit, there is nothing and no one has approached me. KCB still have a coach until the day they will say otherwise.”
KCB are reportedly hunting for a new coach after finishing fifth, six points behind champions Gor Mahia, having seen the side mount a credible title challenge only to fizzle out in the final months of the season.
Former Gor Mahia coach Zico has been with KCB for four years and came close to winning the title in the 202-21 season when they finished second, just three points behind champions Tusker, but fell off the following campaign to finish seventh before their fifth placing in the just-concluded season.
If the bankers were to reach and agreement with Kimanzi, they would be getting one of the most experienced coaches in Kenya, having also coached Sofapaka and national team Harambee Stars over two stints.
Kimanzi is also a title winner after leading Mathare to their first and only Premier League crown in 2008.
