Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk believes Manchester United will not be an easy match for Arne Slot but the Reds will be prepared for the visit to Old Trafford.
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has warned his teammates against underestimating Manchester United ahead of their Super Sunday clash at Old Trafford.
It is the battle of the Dutch coaches as Erik Ten Hag hosts his compatriot and new boss at Anfield, Arne Slot, in what is the game of the weekend in the Premier League.

But despite a strong start to life under Slot at Liverpool, skipper Van Dijk is leaving nothing to chance as he emphasised the unpredictable nature of their historic rivalry with United.
Ahead of the decisive clash, the Dutch centre-back has fondly recalled the events leading up to Liverpool’s emphatic 7-0 victory under former boss Jurgen Klopp back in March 2023.

He stated that it was an amazing day for everyone at Liverpool but came at a time that the Reds were not considered to be at their best.
“These games are on their own,” Van Dijk stated on SuperSport after their last win at Anfield, highlighting the unique atmosphere of the fixture.

“I remember a certain game we won here (at Old Trafford) 7-0, i think we were not in the best situation (and) so many thought that at the time that it could have gone their (Man United’s) way. But that evening was an amazing evening for us.”
The former Saints defender went on to acknowledge the role of the Old Trafford fans, suggesting it could influence the match, referencing the club’s recent visits to the venue of their clash today.

“These are special games and with their fans obviously behind them, it could change a lot. We saw it last year when we couldn’t win one game over there, it was tough and we have to be ready.”
Speaking further, he added that the club will be prepared to face whatever their hosts who are looking for redemption after a painful defeat at the Amex the last time throw at them.

“We will prepare in the perfect way and adapt to everything they’d try to do in other to be better than them,” he added.
Despite Van Dijk’s statement reminding of the significance of this fixture, Liverpool will take to the pitch confident of coming out with something positive.
Arne’s Reds defeated the Red Devils 3-0 when the two rivals met during pre-season and will be looking for a repeat when both side go head-to-head.
