Jose Mourinho spoke on the situation involving Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah's time at Chelsea and why it didn't go as planned.

Jose Mourinho has often been blamed for how he handled Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah but the Portuguese manager has now come out to reveal what actually happened.

Both De Bruyne and Salah have go on to be two of the best players in Premier League history with Manchester City and Liverpool respectively having initially struggled in their earlier years at Chelsea.

Mourinho has now ascribed their struggles at Stamford Bridge to a lack of patience on the part of both players and claimed they only left the club because they wanted to and not because he forced them out as is believed.

"To be honest, they left because they wanted to leave, they left because they didn’t want to wait," Mourinho said while speaking as a guest on an episode of the 'Obi One' podcast.

"Their history proves that their option was good because they reached high standards but sometimes kids, they do decisions like that because they cannot wait, they do decisions like that because they don’t have the patience to wait for the right moment and some times their career goes in the wrong direction," Mourinho continued.

Jose Mourinho on Mohamed Salah's time at Chelsea

Mourinho went into the specifics of Mohamed Salah at Chelsea, revealing the role he played in bringing the Egyptian to the club in the first place.

"When people say to me sometimes, ‘You let Salah go’ I say the exact opposite. I bought Salah, I was the one that told them, ‘buy that guy.’ He was going from Basel to Liverpool and I made a fight, I made a war to make him come to Chelsea," Mourinho revealed.

"Then there comes the part where to be a Chelsea player you need to perform or you have to wait. He didn’t want to wait, he wanted to go on loan and then Chelsea at a certain point decided to sell," Mourinho continued.

"He went to Fiorentina and then Roma and then Chelsea decided to sell and that was not me deciding to sell. I was saying let him go on loan if he feels he wants to play every minute of every game," the Portuguese maestro rounded up on Salah.

Jose Mourinho on Kevin De Bruyne's time at Chelsea

"With Kevin, it was very similar, we went to pre-season in Asia, we went to Indonesia and Thailand and they said Kevin should go on loan to a German club and I told the club ‘no,I don’t want him on loan I want him with me'," Mourinho said, delving into Kevin De Bruyne's case as well.

"He stays with me and he starts the Premier League playing on the starting eleven, after that game we played European Super Cup in Prague against Bayern, he doesn’t play that game and the next day, he wants to leave,"

Mourinho continued, "And then we played the second game of the season at Old Trafford against Manchester, we drew I think 0-0 at Old Trafford, he was on the bench, Kevin he played some minutes but it wasn’t enough for him."

"So, he wanted to leave and when you’re at Chelsea. You want to leave, go and another one comes," Mourinho rounded up on Kevin De Bruyne's time at the club.

Jose Mourinho could be set for a third spell as Chelsea manager

Mourinho added, "They were just kids that couldn’t wait and their career says that they were right, they had a fantastic career and still have but it was not me. Probably the other guys I pushed them out but not them."

De Bruyne was a Chelsea player from 2012 to 2014 after which he left for Wolfsburg while Salah was at the club from 2014 to 2016 then he joined Roma.
