Sporting vs Manchester City
The 39-year-old has been named the Red Devils' new coach, but he will only resume during the November international break. The Sporting board wants him to steer the ship through the pair of difficult games they have before the intermission.
Before facing Braga this weekend, Amorim will set up his team to host Pep Guardiola’s side in a midweek Champions League clash.
What Amorim said
Unavoidably, the match against Manchester City will be an early feeler for Red Devils fans who have otherwise not paid attention to Amorim's exploits in Portugal.
The former Braga manager is under no illusion and is aware the match will impact his perception by his new fans, stating that a win could earn him comparisons with Sir Alex Ferguson.
“If the result is negative, the expectations about me will drop,” he said at a press conference. “But if we win, they will think the new Sir Alex Ferguson has arrived!”
Sporting will host Manchester City at 9 p.m. WAT later today, and Amorim will have a chance to get one over Guardiola ahead of their city rivalry.
