Queens will be hoping to register their ninth win of the season against the Kangemi-based side.

Thika Queens captain Catherine Nakiridde says they have put the painful loss to Nakuru City Queens in the FKF Women’s Cup behind them and are now focusing on their next game against Kangemi Ladies.

The Thika-based side is set to meet Kangemi away at Dagoretti High School in a Football Kenya Federation Women’s Premier League match on Thursday.

The league defending champions fell to a 2-0 defeat against Nakuru in the domestic cup quarters on Saturday, but Nakiridde is optimistic they will impose themselves in the next match.

“We are feeling awful because we expected a win against City Queens, but I am grateful that my team managed to reach the quarterfinals. We are hoping to come back strong in their league game on Thursday,”  she said.

The Queens clash against Kangemi will be vital for them to win to keep them in contention for a top-four finish.

Thika Queens are under the tutelage of Benter Achieng, who took over from Fredrick Majani three weeks ago.

Queens, two-time Kenyan champions, are out of contention for the league title as they are sitting sixth on the log with three matches remaining to the end of the season.

The team has 27 points in 19 matches, while their next opponents, Kangemi Ladies, are seated 11th on the table standings.

It is worth noting that Nakiridde joined Thika Queens in September 2022 alongside Joan Kwagala from Uganda Christian University (UCU).
