The Citizens have come close to winning the trophy in the past seasons and are getting closer again.

Former Premier League stars Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott have tipped Manchester City to finally win the Champions League.

City are in the last four after a 4-1 aggregate win over Bayern Munich and will face Real Madrid in the semi-final once again.

Ferdinand – a Manchester United legend – and Lescott – a former City centre-back – have backed the Citizens to emerge as winners of the coveted European club trophy.

"I think they're defensively stronger than in previous years, so I will go Man City," said Lescott.

"Reluctantly, I will say Man City. But I have said it for the last three years, I will continue in that vain," Ferdinand stated.

"I think they're going to get it right. [Erling] Haaland's impact [will be the difference]."

Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva echoed Lescott’s sentiments that City have a strong backline. The solidity at the back shown by the Premier League champions has been credited to their outstanding run in recent games.

"I look back and see [Manuel] Akanji, [Nathan] Ake, [Ruben] Dias, [Stones], [Kyle] Walker, [Aymeric] Laporte and feel comfortable as they are great defenders, it good to have this quality at the back," said the City midfielder.

"The moment we are in is special and very good, building that confidence win after win and we will keep it that way.

"You know how Pep [Guardiola] is, always creates something different and adapts, as he thinks people will watch our games and adapt, so he tries to adapt quicker.

"He changed how we play, and we are now doing very well, it took us time to get to that point, but now we are all doing very well."

However, the Citizens could contend with the absence of Nathan Ake, who was hauled off in the match against Bayern Munich with what is believed to be a hamstring injury.
