While you celebrate the return of the UEFA Champions League, there are some intriguing matches in the NPFL you must follow.
The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, returns this mid-week for week eight with some special matches.
There are 10 matches across the two groups slated for Wednesday, with some standout fixtures lined up across the country.
Here are three (3) of those matches that you must not miss out on.
Enyimba vs Shooting Stars
Nigeria’s biggest club and eight-time NPFL winners, Enyimba, will welcome Ibadan warriors Shooting Stars to their home in Aba.
This Group A tie is easily the biggest game of the game week, with Enyimba looking to build on their good form of recent.
The People’s Elephant will be looking to make it three wins in the last three when they take on the Oluyole Warriors, who are also unbeaten in the last two.
Rivers United vs Enugu Rangers
A match between two familiar foes will see champions Rivers United host former winners Enugu Rangers in Port Harcourt.
The defending champions are now playing catch-up in Group B having missed the last game week due to a continental assignment in the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC.
United will be looking to return to winning ways after two defeats in their last two matches in all competitions against the visitors, the Flying Antelopes, who need points to ease relegation worries. But this particular fixture will not hold as United continues to focus on the CAFCC,
Plateau United vs El Kanemi Warriors
The third game you must keep tabs on in the football league will see Plateau United take El Kanemi Warriors at the new Jos Stadium.
This particular encounter is a regional rivalry and will be very intense as these two Northern clubs lock horns.
El Kanemi, who have failed to win any of their last five games, will have their hands full taking on the Tin City boys just coming out unscathed against Remo Stars in Ikenne.
Worthy mentions
There are a couple of other games in the NPFL that should catch your fancy in both groups.
Group A leaders Bendel Insurance are home to Nasarawa United in Benin. This should not be a problem for the unbeaten side.
Also in Group A, Kwara United, who finished in the top four last season, host third-placed Remo Stars in Ilorin.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Lobi Stars will not want to. maintain the distance between them and close markers, Rivers United, with a win over their host Wikki Tourist in Bauchi.
