URA FC head coach Sam Timbe has dismissed the title talks gathering steam following his side’s 2-1 win over Wakiso Giants FC on Wednesday.
The four-time league champions have picked up five wins from six league outings, with only the Busoga United home loss denying them a perfect six in six.
Timbe was pleased that his side now understood the assignment at hand, which took a while to come good but dismissed the title contention talk.
“We are in the right direction, and we just have to keep winning; however, the league is a marathon, so we can’t be talking about being in title contention,” Timbe said.
“Teamwork is why we have come this far from both the players and technical team sides, so I can only be grateful for the strides achieved.”
With ten games left, the tax collectors are 11 points adrift table leaders SC Villa and would need to win their next three games in a row to catch up.
The veteran coach also appreciated the fans who welcomed the idea of returning the team to the Mehta stadium in Lugazi.
“I would also like to apologize to our fans for losing our first home game here (in Lugazi) when we returned, but we’ve made amends by winning against Wakiso Giants,” he noted.
“People in Lugazi love football. We have to make them happy by working harder to go where we belong.”
URA FC will be hoping to maintain the winning touch when they make the long trip to Arua to face Arua Hill in their next outing.
