KCCA FC were a solid favourite to win the 2021/2022 StarTimes Uganda Premier League title last season.
They looked strong from the onset, with their intentions very clear that they finished top of the log first in the first round, losing just once to URA.
In such situations, the golden rule is always simple: keep winning your games and worry less about the chasing park.
It was not the case for the Lugogo side, as they struggled to win their games and failed to manage the pressure that came with it.
Before they could find their feet, Vipers were crowned champions for the fifth time, while KCCA FC had settled for second, with a staggering 18 points separating the two sides.
They find themselves in a similar situation this season, not top of the log because of the number of games played.
But they will be with ease if they win those games in hand; in fact, they should be at the league summit had they defeated Maroons on Saturday at Lugogo.
Instead, they came from behind to force a one-all draw, a sign that the ghosts of last season are still around.
"We are much aware of that," KCCA FC manager Morley Byekwaso told Pulse Sports before adding.
"And we are working so hard to change that; if you analysed the second half (referring to the KCCA - Maroons game), you saw that the players came back and put in alot."
"Pushed alot showing that they want to put the game away, which is positive, and I know we can build on that; we shall get better," Byekwaso added.
One positive that Byekwaso and company have to boast about is the goals; they have scored 29 after 17 games, and no one has scored more.
But they have conceded 15, more than Villa (12), BUL (14) and Vipers (5), the other teams pushing for the title.
The kasasiro Boys are on the road this Wednesday as they head to Lira to play Blacks Power at the same venue they defeated SC Villa 3-0.
KCCA will be banking on that performance to fancy their chances of picking three points against a side fighting for survival - Blacks Power are second from the bottom.
