The embattled head coach has given the reason behind why Leopards have started the new season underwhelmingly, but admits it should not be used as an excuse.

Embattled AFC Leopards head coach Tom Juma has explained why his side have started the new league season in somewhat underwhelming manner which has irritated alot of fans at the club.

Leopards drew 0-0 in their opening match of the season against FC Talanta, before losing to KCB in their second match and then drawing against Muhoroni Youth last Sunday.

At full time following the Muhoroni clash, angry fans did not hide their frustrations at the technical bench, actively calling for Juma to be sacked at the Kasarani Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Juma admitted that things did not go according to plan as they were expecting to win.

“It was not a very good game. It did not go how we wanted because we were expecting to win and it did not go how we wanted, we are not happy,” Juma said.

Juma has blamed the side’s toothless start to having a lot of new players who need time ‘to gel’.

“You have to work everyday and every week.If you look at the composition of our team, a lot of new players(are here).

“It takes time before they gel. That however is not an excuse. At this club, you have to got results and unfortunately, today it was not the case against Muhoroni.”

Leopards’ fans had hoped that the two-week international break, when no Ingwe player was selected to the national team, would have given them ample time to correct the mistakes that saw them record a goalless draw against FC Talanta before losing 1-0 to KCB.

Unfortunately, they still endured a tough afternoon at Kasarani Stadium and they made their feelings known to the two.

Juma took over from his boss Patrick Aussems, who quit in July after two-and-a-half years in charge.

The supporters were hoping for instant success even though Ingwe signed 17 new players but it looks like they will still have to be patient after a statement released by the club’s National Executive Council indicated that the former Kenya international is going nowhere for now.
