German football legend Lothar Mathaus says Bayern Munich overpaid Tottenham for Harry Kane.
Bayern Munich legend Lothar Mathaus has claimed that the club were ‘blackmailed’ into signing Harry Kane from Tottenham.
Kane, 30, became the highest goal scorer in Tottenham's and the English national team's history last season, but the former Bayern Munich captain and Ballon d'Or winner believes the German champions overpaid.

Following his first goal for his new club, Harry Kane discussed why Bayern Munich are the ideal team for him and how life is different in Germany.
What happened
Following the exit of Robert Lewandowski last season and an underwhelming campaign in which they were embarrassed out of the Champions League by Manchester City, and needed a final day fumble by Borussia Dortmund to not fail to win the Bundesliga for the first time in 10 years.
The Bavarians knew they needed to sign a new point man and had focused their chase on English national team record scorer Kane.
After a long negotiation period between Bayern Munich and Tottenham, both parties finally reached an agreement of around £100 million for the player's transfer.

More than Haaland and Kane: How many league goals has Osimhen scored in 2023?
With two goals against Frosinone in the opening weekend of the new Serie A season, Nigeria's Victor Osimhen surpassed both Erling Haaland and Harry Kane for goals this calendar year. But how many has he scored so far?
What Lothar Mathaus said
The signing of Harry Kane became the record transfer fee paid by Bayern Munich in all their history, dwarfing the £68.3 million they paid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019 that held the record.
Although Mathaus recognises the quality of Kane, he believes Bayern's desperation to land him has caused them to overpay.
“Those in charge at Bayern were and are 100 per cent convinced of Harry Kane,” he said, per the Daily Mail.
“And that's why they stretched themselves; that's why they pushed their limits.
