Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as favourites to land James Maddison ahead of Liverpool and Newcastle.
Tottenham now lead the race for the signing of Leicester City playmaker James Maddison, according to reports.
The 26-year-old is one of the top performers in the league in the attacking midfielder position and has been constantly linked with a move away. Newcastle were reportedly in the driving seat to take him away from Leicester, but Tottenham are now said to be ahead, and closest to completing a deal for the former Norwich man.
Tottenham overtake Newcastle
Football Insider reports that Tottenham have taken pole position in the race for James Maddison, leapfrogging Newcastle, who were thought to be most likely to complete a deal.
The North London side are said to be keen on bringing in a playmaker, and although they have been previously linked with Maddison, a move for him is now said to be a top priority.
However, closely behind them are the Magpies and even Liverpool, who are also monitoring the situation of the midfielder whose contract expires next summer.
More suitors could also emerge for the midfielder, who has 15 goal contributions in 24 games this season despite struggling for fitness.
More on Liverpool’s interest
As we reported earlier, Liverpool have reportedly informed James Maddison's representatives that they are interested in signing the midfielder this summer as the Anfield club look to rebuild following a poor season.
According to 90min, Leicester are braced for the departure of the talented midfielder, and his desire to leave the club has been reinforced by his decision to turn down several contract offers.
The report adds that Leicester would be willing to listen to offers starting from £50m for the playmaker.
Furthermore, it is being reported that Liverpool have reached out to Maddison's camp to signal their interest and willingness to proceed to the negotiation table.
