Reports now emerge about how Spurs dismissed an opportunity to appoint the Dutchman.

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly did not appoint Erik ten Hag as Jose Mourinho’s successor due to a ‘lack of charisma’.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs dismissed the opportunity to appoint the Dutchman when it arose after they fired Mourinho.

Ten Hag was interviewed by the London club, which ended up not appointing him because his English was at an ‘adequate’ level and also lacked charisma.

Former Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was appointed, but he ended up staying at Tottenham for less than four months. Antonio Conte was then appointed, lasted for 16 months, and left a rant against the club and the players following a disappointing performance against Southampton.

The revolving door continued to swing, and Cristian Stellini – who was Conte’s assistant and mandated to oversee the club on a temporary basis – was recently sent packing following a huge defeat at the hands of Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag has had an impressive debut season with Manchester United and has led the club to Carabao Cup glory. This was United’s first trophy since 2017.

The Red Devils are also in the FA Cup final and are set to battle with Manchester City on June 3.

The former Ajax manager is tipped to lead United to a top four finish and eventually take part in the Champions League campaign next season. On the other hand, Spurs are struggling, and their top four dream – given their recent performance - remains distant.

As United solidify under Ten Hag, Spurs are back in the market looking for a new manager. Julian Nagelsmann has been tipped to take over after walking out of talks to manage Chelsea.
