Tottenham could be set to make the Barcelona youngster a part of their 2023/24 squad
Tottenham are set to make a club-record bid for Barcelona starlet Anssumane Fati after it emerged that the youngster could be seeking an exit from the club due to a lack of playing time.
Fati’s Barcelona fairytale could be coming to an end
Fati broke into the Barcelona scene as a teenager and showed immense promise at the start of his career, breaking Barcelona records for fun and earning a reputation as one of the best young forwards blossoming at the time.
The Barcelona hierarchy was so enamoured with Fati’s performances for the club that they handed Fati the iconic number 10 jersey upon Lionel Messi's departure.
However, things have not gone smoothly for the Spain international, as injuries have stalled his development and the club’s acquisitions of Ferran Torres and Raphinha have pushed him down the pecking order, significantly affecting his game time at an important point in his career.
Tottenham prepared to break club transfer record for Fati
With this in mind, Tottenham are set to swoop for the Catalan youngster, who despite his injury struggles remains an in-demand player, especially in the Premier League.
According to the Daily Express, Tottenham are willing to eclipse their current transfer record of €62 million paid to Lyon for Tanguy Ndombele in order to secure the services of the 20-year-old starlet.
Fati’s most recent contract saw his release clause jump from €100 million to €170 million, but Spurs will likely only need to pay a fee in the region of the old release clause to get their man.
With the potential or imminent sale of club captain Harry Kane in the summer, Tottenham are expected to see a large financial windfall that should enable them to finance the deal for Fati without any major problems.
Barcelona will not want to lose a player with Fati’s amount of talent, but saying no to a huge sum of money would be difficult for the Catalans, especially with Fati getting little game time as it is.
